Founded in 1976 by Christian Restoin (hubby of editrix Carine Roitfeld), the line was shuttered in 1998 when Restoin decided to step aside to support Roitfeld in her new role as fashion arbiter of French Vogue. Now thanks to pal Serge Azria (brother of Max and creative director of Current/Elliott and Joie), Equipment is bringing back its signature silk menswear shirts with two patch pockets and with Restoin as a creative consultant naturally.

Fun factoid: Restoin met the French Voguette when she called in some Equipment shirts for a fashion shoot she was styling.

Cargo skinny jeans may seem like an oxymoron until you hand the shears to J Brand who has melded utility with a slim silhouette. For that tapered fit, the jeans are heavily seamed (we’re talking four vertical seams down the front, back, and both sides!) and sculpted at the knees with a diagonal inset that emphasizes its combat-ready look. Of course the requisite cargo pockets still remain however they are positioned higher and at the thighs. Having already conquered the menswear and footwear fronts, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are adding another slash to their ever growing contemporary label. The project crunching sisters (the two are weeks away from their inaugural fashion week presentation and just launched junior label Olsenboye) are venturing into casualwear with a 3-piece denim collection which is slated to hit Intermix next month. Named after ‘70s music icons, the Textile line includes the Hendrix bell bottoms, the cropped Joni, and the dark patchwork Stevie jeans. A fun little tidbit is that all three pairs are inspired by actual jeans hanging in the duo’s closets with the Stevie hailing all the way from their high school days. We don’t know about you but anything that can survive the rocky transition from teenage adolescence to fresh-faced twentysomething deserves a permanent slot in our wardrobe rotation. While we count down the days till the jeans arrives, check out some other looks from the label and keep checking back.

Stripes Ahoy!

markus%20lupfer.JPG
German-born, London-based designer Markus Lupfer makes waves this season with a nautical collection that takes UES-approved stripes and reworks them with a decidedly LES sensibility. All it required was haphazardly tossed crystals, a load of sequins, and some ravaged black mesh trim. Take for instance a simple Breton striped cardigan that goes from AM to PM appropriate with the addition of a heavy cluster of pearlized; or a marinière-inspired long sleeved frock toughened up with tattered mesh and shoulder pads. With the nautical look already making headway this season, make sure to snap up these striped finds which are making their American debut at Intermix.

Introducing Beatrice Boyle

beatriceboyle.jpg
Freshly minted London School of Fashion grad Beatrice Boyle creates wearable art in the form of tees and dresses. We've fallen in love.

Her pieces are inspired by her dark -- almost ghoulish -- macabre paintings. The illustration major-cum-fashion designer was discovered by the CEO of fashion retailer Browns Focus, who loved her edgy style.

At just 23-years-young, Boyle is already onto a second collection -- still featuring her signature harsh black, nude, and pink brushstrokes, but this time inspired by images of her gal pals instead of pages ripped from magazines. If she must wax poetic about the distorted post-party images of disheveled girls with make-up stained cheeks, she simply describes it as a “juxtaposition of the glamorous and the sordid, the glossy and the sinister.”

In any case, he zipped on over to design Versace's footwear label, and (happily for us) soon struck out on his own.

Some of the most iconic pieces of the fall season have been created by Lyndsey Butler of VEDA fame. Her mood and sensibility seem to fall right in line with the heavy metal look of the Goth girl who is seductively feminine.

One of our favorite skirts of the season is Mercury, which marries a studded leather front with a doubleknit back (imagine sitting on these studs... we shudder to think of it). In any case, the skirt is a statement piece that you can finish with something as easy as a tee.

BTW, we do so love that VEDA's Lower East Side store has a black tombstone shaped cash register. How perfect.

Who knew that heavy metal studs could be so feminine?

The major necklace trend right now is major, indeed -- a bold, right out there fashion statement in the form of studs, crystals, fringes and more strung from ribbon ties. You will most often find this necklace style in the form of a bib to be knotted close to the neck. The beauty of this clever construction is that you can, of course, wear the necklace to whatever length you desire which conveniently expands your fashion options.

SHIRTYouNeedThis.jpg
After a recent "You Need This: The Shirt" feature on our site, our shirts have become our #1 bestsellers. There are a few trends to be aware of that differentiate the shirt selection we've edited for you:

1. The Oversized Shirt. A boy meets girl oversized and very casual look, usually in plaid, that is the signature look (and done to perfection) of Elizabeth and James.

2. The Classic Americana Shirt. Think red and black checks, washed and worn denim or style influenced by the tailoring of Out West. All American. Heart of the country. You get the picture.

3. The Pretty Fancy Shirt. You've seen styles this fall that are fitted thanks to their button backs from Elizabeth and James. Watch for more of those. What we're loving right now is a slightly more fitted shirt with the sparkle and shine of lurex brightening up the plaid. A Key Look as we head into holiday...

VEDA's Leather and Lace

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

veda%20lace.JPG
VEDA channels sugar and spice with a holiday collection that couples delicate lace and buttery leather. Led by NYU grad Lyndsey D. Butler, the leather-centric collection gets a touch feminine with the addition of black floral lace. For an unexpected touch of lace, their Finley vest ($398) is leathered at the front and completely sheer floral lace at the rear. The peekaboo factor is also found in their Kendall jacket, ($625) which looks like a simple cropped leather jacket, but in reality has a lace inset that wraps around the front like a delicate top.

Cruelty-free designer Stella McCartney does fabulous fall accessories fit for those with a vegetarian palate. Here we have the over the knee trend done sportif... the boots rise just a bit past the knee where a tab along the side snaps closed for a snug fit. They have convenient flat gum soles -- just what you need when you find yourself trekking around town during a snow emergency.

Sky High

pdbskirt.jpg
Though it may look (and possibly feel) like a neck brace for your lower half this banded number from Pleasure Doing Business has the magical ability to pinch and tuck every imperfection for a sculpted look. The little black skirt ($115) sits a bit high on the waist so don’t let its 17” length fool you as it is quite mini. No need to suck in. The six bands of extra duty elasticized rubber do that for you.

Torn To Shreds

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

hero.jpg
Having launched their debut collection just this summer, the L.A.-based duo of Josh and He Yang are quickly dressing Hollywood PYTs in their cobwebbed creations. But what really sets the pair apart is their tongue-in-cheek backstory to the name Hero Crane. Have you seen their swan-like logo that looks part-man and part-bird? Well the fictional tale goes that the young Hero Crane was separated from his family and took refuge in a giant Oak tree. High in the sky, he had a Tarzan-esque upbringing thanks to a flock of birds who took him under their wings by teaching him how to survive and weave nests. Though a bit unusual as far as backstories go, the head-scratching factoid sheds some light on why the go-to shredded label looks completely cobwebbed… a nest-inspired look perhaps? But whatever the idea, their look is definitely a heavy hitter as their signature Shredded Net Scoop Neck Tee ($145) from their freshman collection returns in new navy and brown charcoal hues. The tees are finely shredded at the sides to created cobwebbed panels that reveal a modest (or as modest as sheer sides can be) amount of skin.

fur.jpg
New York-based label Sherry Cassin dots her light weight vests with tiny fur tufts that almost look like a heavy coat of plumage. The fur puffs resemble individual fuzzy feathers – especially the silver fox version which has poofs that gradate from silver to charcoal brown to white at the tips. Bred from Finish foxes, the fur dots the entirely of the Cheryl vest from its fluffed collar downward though it remains surprisingly light despite its thick coverage. Choose from jet black
($745), silver ($1195), or snow white ($875).

SHORT AND SWEET

pdb%20skirt.JPG
Ho-hum winter weather need not mean that your minis have to relocate to the back of your closet. L.A.-based freshman line Pleasure Doing Business goes to show that the sculpted mini can still work even when the forecast turns frigid. Helmed by designers Simone Gonzalez and Aaron Beaulieu, the fresh faced line has created a buzz amongst downtown PYTs for its coquettish appeal. A collection focused around the banded mini skirt doesn’t usually read Audrey Hepburn classic but the duo manages to pare down its flirty feel with a sleek silhouette that keeps it classy. Here PDB does a high waisted skirt ($140) in a pinstripe print that really cinches things in place thanks to its extra elastic bands. Just pare with some tights (even we’re not prepared to go bare-legged right now in the name of fashion!) and you’re ready for the cold front.

BOOT UP

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

mukluks.JPG
One part snow boot and two parts moccasin make for these Eskimo-appropriate mukluk boots. Canadian-based Manitobah is the shoe label behind these authentic recreations of aboriginal footwear given an urban renewal thanks to intricate beading and luxe fur trim. Originally meant for Artic aboriginals, the boots look like a close cousin of the Uggs except much fluffier and furrier. The mukluks are extra warm while being fairly light thanks to its soft rubber soles and its shearling sheepskin exterior. Here they do a shorter wrapped version ($298, in grey or black) that is slit at the sides but wrapped over and over again for a snug fit.

Huff and Puff

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

add%20puffer.JPG
Having said that we don’t like puffers that make us look like snowmen, it has to be said that they do come in handy especially on a frigid day like this. So the question becomes cropped and frosty or snug and overstuffed? Luckily for us, Italian outerwear label Add solves this fashion conundrum by making a knee length puffer coat ($390) feel warm while reading trim. It’s the latest office hit thanks to its belted waist and diagonal seams which make for a slimming silhouette. The goose down coat even has a puffed quilted hood to round out the poofy look. Perfect to fend off the upcoming cold front!

moncler.jpg

Ready to dust off your old winter weather gear? You know, those things you wear to keep you warm but you hope you don't run into anyone you know because you look like an oversized snowman? Wait just one minute. We do encourage you to explore for French-born outerwear label Moncler .

Moncler is all about uber warmth whilst still retaining the sleekness and chic a snow bunny might need during a city jaunt. The company has a storied history of outfitting the likes of Olympic skiers and alpine expedition teams, but they've also extended that expertise into the world of haute couture. In their latest collection, designer Giambattista Valli turned the classic down jacket inside out with a toile blouse fluffed up with feather appliqués on the outside.

But back to reality. In preparation for the upcoming cold front, we've selected ultra warm puffers with a feminine twist. You'll find a swingy A line jacket, slim belted waists and face-framing fur --all designed to create the perfect curvaceous silhouette that works both on the slopes or après-ski. Twisted Sisters

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

twist.jpg
It is a universal truth that the best thing about having a sister is free range over a second wardrobe. Here at Intermix we work with our fair share of sister acts, from the likes of Elizabeth and James, Twenty8Twelve, Dannijo, Angel Jackson and Tuleste.

Another addition to that growing list is the Minnesota-bred duo of Kim and Linda Renk, who happen to share the bonds of sisterhood along with their playful costume jewelry line Sequin. Having cut their teeth in the fashion industry for the past decade (Kim in product design for jewelry line Swank and Linda as a buyer for Target), they launched Sequin -- a haven for those who dream of collecting vintage Miriam Haskell-like gems on a budget.

Their current collection features fringed out metals and beribboned twists. Their pieces are a perfect example of one of our favorite emerging trends -- the eclectic necklace. View the collection here.

Sparkle Girl

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

leeangel.jpg
We love Lee Angel jewels because their designer Roxanne Assoulin is the queen of sparkle. As a matter of fact, the sparkle in her newest collection is quite out of control, which is just what the party girl needs to be the center of attention (and who doesn't want to be the center of attention?).

For instance, we swear she is channeling the New Year's Eve Times Square ball with her fireball ring, which is a huge dome of grey crystals -- and the grey color is particularly nice, because it adds a bit of chic. Or feast your eyes on oversized vintage-inspired crystal earrings, which are almost but not quite a chandelier style.

Our favorite piece is the crystal cluster cuff strung with dangling crystals. It jingles with every move you make, creating quite a cheerful castanet-esque clatter. Not for the faint of heart.

A bit of pure lust for a Friday afternoon... this absolutely gorgeous Chloe duffel has caught the eye of everyone in our office, and our eyes have gone green with envy thinking about the fashion goddess who will walk out of our store (or website) with this handbag.

It's for the girl who needs everything, and needs to carry it all around with her all the time. Or it could be a to die for weekend duffel... just what you need when an impromptu weekend escape comes your way.

The Trend: Vintage Lace

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

uneedthislace.gif
There's pretty girl lace, and there's provocative lace. We're all about lace that's meant to bare more than a little... a splice of lace running from waist to hem on a Stella skirt or a long lean length of sheer knit lace as your new LBD.

What we're loving about lace right now is that designers are turning to vintage pieces to create their seductive pieces. For example, Yael Aflalo and her former designer Chi Bui have found a new fashion perspective with their new vintage-inspired collection named The Reformation which -- you guessed it -- is inspired by styles and uses fabrics from our fashion past (more on that later).

All About Adrienne

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

AdrienneLandau.jpg
Long story short -- after bartering some art pieces for fur scraps to revamp an antique fur find, artist Adrienne Landau ended up with a clever vintage coat as well as a namesake fashion label.

But Landau isn't your uptown fur designer outfitting the ladies who lunch crowd, oh no. She has a penchant for fluffy raccoon spiced with neon dyes and sleek rabbit glammed up with a leopard print job.

For a jolt of color, try a raccoon muffler in cobalt blue... Daring PYTs can channel ‘60s fashion maven Edie Sedgwick with a leopard print faux mink jacket... Glamour girls with a twist (or twisted glamour girls, if you will) can call summon forth their inner fashion diva with a dramatic mix of rabbit fur and raccoon.

Fringe Benefits

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

gryphonfringe.jpg
We love fringe. It's playful yet somehow sophisticated, provocative, chic. The beauty of fringe is that in most cases it can be worn both day and night, since many of the key trends right now are all about ultra glam (especially as we head into holiday).

We do warn you -- there is nothing worse than tacky fringe. So we do encourage you to take a look at fringe as created by Gryphon, a company that's renowned not only for styling but also for impeccable construction. This jacket is a whirlwind of fringe from top to bottom, and as you'd expect from such a high quality piece, it's very very very heavy. And fantastic on. So go ahead, have a bit of fun.

Birds of a Feather

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

jacksonbag.jpg
Brit punk meets Parisian chic as the sibling duo behind accessories label Angel Jackson crosses the pond with their frock ‘n roll handbags in tow. Sisters and besties Katie and Millie Smith have been designing their ethical minded handbags for the past four years to much acclaim from a Brit fan base that includes the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alex Chung.

What sets the sisters apart is their ethical design sensibility that ensures that materials are humanely sourced (i.e. the snakeskin they use is a bi-product of the food industry) and that craftspeople are treated well (i.e. free healthcare and English lessons for workers). Last month, the two finally made the jump stateside by debuting their newest collection during New York Fashion Week.

Seeming like a tagline for a Gossip Girl episode, their fall unveil is dubbed “The damned and the dangerously beautiful” and is peppered with snakeskin, mixed metals, studs and feathers. Looking very much like an UWS-appropriate handbag after a go through the Bedazzler, their Studded Sequin Handbag ($465) is completely swathed in metallic sequins, silver studs and jet black snakeskin to complete the downtown socialite look.

Though if you’re sequin-averse, there is always the Chandra Feather Handbag ($495), which takes more than a bit of inspiration from our feathered friends. It has such a drama of heavy dark green plumage you may be surprised to note that there’s actually a bag hidden somewhere underneath.

Access Hollywood

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

hollywoodbelt.jpg

Known for their Wild West aesthetics, belt label Hollywood Trading Company trades yesteryear's horse-galloping cowboys for Harley-riding bikers with their latest rocker-inspired belts.

Designer Zip Stevenson, the man behind the vintage-esque belts, is affixing studs to his once strictly Americana pieces. They don't really look like gear befitting a lasso and chaps... the new creations include a belt made completely of chunky chain links (Electric Multi Chain Belt, $275). We’re sure Calamity Jane would approve.

The Sister Act

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

dannijo.jpg
Twentysomething sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder combined names as well as design wits when it came to launching DANNIJO, their line of eclectic accessories that couple industrial metals with neon baubles. Started in 2008, the hand-made accessories line was purely organic seeing as how the pair first delved into jewelry design when they took it upon themselves to take crash courses in wire work while sifting through their doctor dad’s medical bag. So it was only fitting that post-college and following stints in men’s accessories for Sam Edelman and in sales for a fine jewelry designer, Jodie and little sis Danielle set up shop inside their 1-bedroom apartment/office/workshop.

Pieces from the pair currently outfitting our wrists and digits come straight from their New York-inspired Haring collection. Projecting the eccentricity in hues and shapes of artist Keith Haring’s iconic neon graffiti art mural on Houston at Bowery, the collection is peppered with neon Swarovski crystals and dangly silver chain links. Our fave must-have cocktail ring is the Andi Ring ($120) with a neon yellow bauble practically the size of a jawbreaker in the center surrounded by tiny white Swarovski crystals. But neon neophytes take note as the stackable Clia mini cuffs ($220) come in the same electric yellow shade albeit done with a lighter hand as the cuffs are just dotted with crystals in a circle and marquise shaped pattern.

One thing’s for sure, fashion darlings have decidedly taken note of the pair with pieces appearing on the necks and wrists of A-Listers from Natalie Portman and Milla Jovovich to Gossip gals both on and off the set. As for the sister act, they’ve just capped a whirlwind fashion week! The girls started the week as co-hosts at Henri Bendel’s Fashion’s Night Out fete before moving onto the runway debuts of their two capsule collections (a 1920s Art Deco-inspired one for Carlos Campos as well as a stars-and-stripes focused line for Bensoni that channeled the All-American girl); both debuts were sandwiched in between outfitting models at the Walter and Nima Taherzadeh shows. And thrown in for good measure, a Today Show featurette last Thursday that showcased a day in the life of the twosome capped the weeklong fashion frenzy.

There's always and time and a place for the basic tee. However, should you wish to upgrade to the luxe tee look, LNA has kindly provided a little romance for us...

We're loving how in their hands the classic loose fitting tee is transformed into a fashion piece, simply with a touch of lace. Specifically, this feminine tee is styled with a large inset of lace that basically takes over the rear view. In a season of "back treatments," this is one of the prettiest you will find. It's available for preorder now in black or white (or why not both?).

Even though it's 2009 and we should know better, the term "eco-friendly fashion" brings homespun life on the prairie thoughts to mind. We are one with the planet now because The Battalion has restructured our thoughts on eco-fashion forever.

Sister duo Linda and Chrys Wong have married the concept of sustainable fashion with killer style. That means we have fabric made from the fiber of organic crops. A recycled manufacturing process. A shipping structure that minimizes their carbon footprint. Digital design. Biogradable shipping materials.

And did we mention fashion pieces that are fun, irreverant and iconic? Thus we bring to you shredded with a twist, and one of our bestselling tees right now:

Introducing Victor Osborne

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

victor.jpg
Victor Osborne does things old school. One would not call him a "hat designer" -- he is a milliner in the finest tradition of millinery, which is a fine tradition indeed. As a matter of fact, he even works out of an atelier in Williamsburg, New York -- kind of an oxymoron if you know Williamsburg, but we digress.

Mr. Osborne and his cadre of up and coming designers attend to their hats one by one, styling them in luxe wool felt (for fall) with extraordinary craftsmanship. Should you visit him in Williamsburg you can commission a custom made hat, or you could visit his ever-changing Eyelevel Gallery, which is a fine art gallery exhibition space retailer kind of thing -- another tradition returning for a new generation.

Should you not be commissioning your hat any time soon, we do encourage you to visit our Victor Osborne collection.

Please don't think of these glittering beauties from Jennifer Behr as PM-only accessorizing opportunites. OK, the mega glitz one might be reserved for evening, but a smaller, "simple" strand of crystals is a wonderful way to glam up what started out as a disaster.

Ladies Who Lunch (In Sequins)

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

Wren.jpg
We love this twisted take on the classic "ladies who lunch" jacket.

Wren is a new line designed by Melissa Coker, who has this really interesting inspiration going on... everything from Dickens to Fitzgerald to "lost girls" and ingenues. Her pieces could be seen as vintage influenced, but after all is said and done (meaning you mix them into your wardrobe) they end up looking totally modern. While you might not be able to wear this sequin jacket to the office, you can definitely mix it with jeans for an casual evening out. It could actually become your go-to signature piece this fall. Watch for more to come from this designer.

It's always a happy day when one of our favorite brands expands into a new line. Today is that happy day, as we are delighted to welcome our first footwear from Joie.

Joie's fall 2009 collection is inspired by the "renegade bohemian," and that bohemian definitely needs ruggedly chic combat style boots for her fall voyages. They are a great way to add downtown edge to your mix. You can of course wear them with jeans, but don't overlook the chance to pair them with tights and fall knits for a new look.

Lace Up Flat Combat Boots, Joie, $535

A bit of whimsy for a Friday afternoon... Jay Godfrey's big bow cami is the ultimate in feminine sweet. We love it mixed with everything from jeans to leather leggings (and rocker chic boots) to downtown it up a bit. Although it's perfectly adorable to go girly as well.

Silk Bow Cami, Jay Godfrey, $195

Made For Walking

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

seebychloeboots.jpg
These boots were made for walking... they are walking right out the doors of our office and our stores. We love these See by Chloe boots!

They are the season's totally sexy over the knee style in a soft (but not too soft) suede. To add a bit of edge, they are studded with itty bitty studs in silver. And they are (as you can see) flat, which makes them incredibly comfortable. Our beloveds are great all-purpose boots with a lot of attitude.

Honoring MJ: The Moonwalk Tee

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

mj_01.jpg
The Date: March 25, 1983

That was the day Michael Jackson turned the world upside down with his gravity-defying moonwalk... one of those "where were you?" moments (for those who were around at the time). :)

Whether you were around or not, you can honor the King of Pop with our limited edition MJ Moonwalk Tee. We've created it in partnership with e.vil, and (if we do say so ourselves) it is perfect.

The tee is sheer white burnout jersey, and his moonwalking legs are styled in tiny black and white crystals.

You Need This: The Vest

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

youneedthisvest.jpg
Today we turn our thoughts to the season's essential vest trend.

We do love pieces that are so easy to throw on and make a statement, and the vest hasn't been around as a must-have for quite some time. Fashion news... and we love them.

Our focus right now is on:

- Leather. For a transition into fall, the trick is a leather front and a canvas back. Lightweight on the wardrobe and on the wallet...

- Shredded. Watch for many, many, many versions of the shredded trend, including our Hero Crane favorite, which is a scarf gone mad into a wrappy top...

- Sexy. We love the look of a vest worn alone in a menswear cut with very feminine surprises like an extremely low back...

- Fur. Always a favorite as the dramatic fall into winter topper.

Take a quick look at our must-have selections right here.

Introducing Haute Hippie

We're delighted to bring NYC's Haute Hippie to you. If you haven't heard of them already, you will soon -- this special label is beloved by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Emily Haines and Blake Lively.

What we love best about them is that they have what they describe as "a love affair with clothing, inspiration, design and creativity". That leads to very special, unexpected and unique pieces that are always a "find" that you can make your own. You definitely won't see people coming and going wearing the same clothes that you are. What's not to love?

The Boots of the Season

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

Yes, it's July 29th, but we can tell you with confidence that the boots of the season have arrived.

Giuseppe Zanotti has created for Balmain a to die for rock and roll fantasy styled in soft suede and embellished with silver zippers from toe to top. The look is beyond edgy, beyond downtown and well into the realm of what we call "sex on heels".

Nothing else need be said.

Everyone needs a few pieces that reflect your unique style, no matter what the season and no matter what the current trends may be.

So if you love fringe, this is the piece for you. It is a cropped little leather vest finished with 17" of fluttering leather fringe. It works now with edgy, downtown style and we promise you it will work far beyond the season as you mix it with everything you own.

Love it!

Mad for Plaid

There's nothing like a dab of plaid to fashion up even the most difficult of ensembles.

This cute little tee from Torn by Ronny Kobo is perfect to wear now and into fall. It is great as an eclectic addition to your rocker chic look, which kind of veers you into the English punk genre, depending on how you style it.

Of course, you could just think of it as adding a cute little plaid tee to your wardrobe. It comes in blue and in red.

Even though it's July, boot lust is upon us. Which boots to buy for fall? It's complicated. If you wait to compare and contrast a full selection of boots -- say, in September -- then you are sure to have so say buh bye to one of your favorites because they are no longer in stock.

Fashion is so difficult.

We're loving these lovelies from Charlie My Love because they combine a lot of trends in one fashionable package, so you kill three birds with one stone, so to speak. They are over the knee length, which is key. However, they can be slouchy as well. And finally they have essential rocker treatment -- but not too much -- in the form of studded strap detail. A trifecta.

A statement-making belt is a quick and easy way to update your look, and we haven't seen great belts for a while so we are especially happy with our new collection.

There are 2 ways to go:

1. The Important Belt Buckle -- It's what's in front that matters, right? Belt buckles are hugely oversized right now. Go for faux tortoise, patent leather or major studs.

2. The Heavy Metal Rocker Chick Belt -- This is a huge trend for fall, so you can feel confident that a mega-studded heavy metal style will take you through the season.

Six Essential Denim Trends

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

denimnews.jpg
Drumroll please... we've identified six essential denim trends you need to know about right now. The beauty of these trends, and of denim in general, is that you can buy a pair now, wear them right now for instant gratification and also wear them right into fall and beyond. They are:

1. Darker versions of this summer's tie dye craze

2. Beyond skinny denim leggings as an alternative to jersey

3. Leather with denim styling (had to throw them in our list, they are beyond fabulous)

4. Studded, embellished and in general rock 'n' rolled out jeans

5. Motorcycle edgy (we've found a pair complete with authentic oil stains!)

6. The new, longer version of Current/Elliott's trendsetting boyfriend jeans

You can check our favorites out right here.

Giuseppe Returns

giuseppefringe.jpg
Giuseppe Zanotti is responsible for the some of the world's most serious "sex on heels" sandals. He returns for fall with a new take on our favorite fringed stilettos, here in black leather with the season's essential silver stud treatment.

It should not surprise you that this designer extraordinaire began his love affair with the intersection of fashion and art as a DJ in his native San Mauro Pascoli. Luckily for us, said town was renowned for its shoemaking tradition. Zanotti's talent quickly took him from Dior to Cavalli and beyond, until he decided to step out (literally) on his own. Today his shoes adorn the feet of Beyonce, Rihanna, Eva Herzigova and many more of fashion's tastemakers. You may reserve your pair of Giuseppe's fabulous fringed beauties right now.

A total party girl skirt, and the first of many many of the sequin skirts we'll be bringing in, as they are a major trend for fall. This tiny (12" long) entree to the trend is completely encrusted with silver sequins, which are separated by lines of brass beads to create its harlequin pattern.

As you begin to plan your sequin wardrobe, do beware -- there are on-the-verge-of tacky glittery sequins (think, alas, Michael Jackson) and there are very chic ways to grab the trend. We prefer slightly muted metallic sequins that take the look a bit more uptown.

BTW, one of our favorite ways to wear this skirt is by day with a tee or tank...

Fall in love with a great scarf and it can become a signature piece, meaning you will wear it everywhere you go. What more can you ask from an accessory?

These new lovelies from Chan Luu are delightful for two reasons:

1. They are styled in a featherweight wisp of cashmere and silk that you can wear all year; and

2. The oversized paisley print is elegant, chic and gorgeous.

We justify the purchase of this handbag from Chloe with the reasoning that if you indulge, you will never need to buy another PM handbag again. Just think of the savings!

It is classic in shape, which means you will wear it forever. But its the detail that makes it truly special. We begin with a silk fabric that has a herringbone pattern woven on top in gold metallic thread. We finish with a feminine bow made edgy with the pairing of leather (the bottom bow) with a pert, not so little crystal bow on top. Divine.

There are some things (or people, for that matter) that are so gorgeous, so perfect, so completely lustworthy that there are no further words to be said.

Such is the case with this gorgeous new satchel style handbag from Chloe.

You would first, of course, choose the larger version shown here in the most stunning shade of light slate blue. Should your inner fashion critic convince you that the smaller satchel in black is perhaps more practical or whatever, that's OK as well...

Rip and Shred

One of the major trends for fall is over the knee boots, which can go both very sophisticated and rocker chic. Chloe's cutting edge statement involves intricate lacing and buckle detail at the back of the knees, and trust us, these boots are gorgeous.

We currently offer them in black leather and brown suede in high heeled versions, and as flat boots in olive suede. Are you ready?

Introducing Malibu Denim

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

malibudenim.jpg

We welcome Malibu Denim to the INTERMIX! The collection is inspired by the Malibu lifestyle (aren't we all?) in design and the special treatment of the denim. The genius behind this accomplishment is designer/stylist Diana Sedigi, whose family (quite conveniently) owns denim mills and design facilities in Europe.

She's created unique treatments to bring an authentic sun-baked and salt-worn look to her denim, just like the one that you might have if you were hanging out on the beaches of Malibu in your jeans. So, if you can't get to Malibu, she's bringing Malibu to you.

BTW, Diane's unique fabric signature is the addition of an itsy bit of cashmere to the stretch denim blend, which makes the jeans sinfully soft.

This pretty watercolor floral chiffon blouse/tunic/dress is a perfect example of her sophisticated style. We love it as an ethereally feminine top that can be worn with jeans now and your bikini whenever. Just don't limit its gorgeousness to the beach!

mmcouturedress2.jpg
This weekend's bestseller is this adorable flounce of a dress from MM Couture.

It's flirtatiously chic, which means that even if you aren't into the boho trend you'll love its cheeky little attitude.

It's styled in chiffon (it is lined) so that right away makes it much more feminine than you'd expect. And we adore the itsy bitsy ditsy print, which is a little bit French country in feeling. We love this piece mixed with chunky sandals and a denim jacket. Perfect for summer!

Sometimes a bit of fashion frippery is so delightful that it just makes you laugh. Such is the case with these gypsy queen sandals, which are part of a brand new shoe collection from Ronny Kobo.

They are simple, flat suede thongs gone wild with an ornate mix of mirrored discs, beadwork, threadwork and fantastic multi-colored ankle wraps made of twisted yarns tipped with beadwork and pompoms. A wonderfully inexpensive way to welcome summer! They're available in blue, beige or black.

tuleste Goes Romantic

rosettenecklace.jpg

tuleste sisters Satu and Celeste Greenberg are your ultimate vintage shop mavens. They need to be, as their collections are inspired by their creative finds, and clearly they are quite good at it! They love nothing more than to "make something old look new again."

We do love them for their very modern looks, which we've been enjoying at INTERMIX for quite some time. We do love them even more for their ultra feminine rosette floral pieces, which we snatched up because they are just that beautiful.

The Perfect PM Earrings

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

filigree.jpg
As long as we're obsessing on outrageous earrings (see below), we'd like to bring another pair of chandeliered lovelies to your attention.

"Intricate" does not begin to describe these beautifully crafted earrings, which are so detailed that they resemble embroidery. And yet, luckily for us, they're not. Instead they are a fantastic accessory that's enjoying a bestseller run at IntermixOnline.com.

We believe it's because you can slip them on with a dress and instantly be on your way to the next party, wedding rehearsal dinner, date...

Filigree Earrings, R.J. Graziano, $95

Turkish Delight

No harem pant wearing trendista should be caught without these totally delightful Turkish Delight Crescent Earrings from Erickson Beamon. They could have come directly from the Istanbul Grand Bazaar by way of I Dream of Genie, and they are simply a fabulous fashion statement.

A note about Erickson Beamon: The company is the brainchild of Karen Erickson, Eric Erikson and Vicki Beamon. They have long been the go-to source for runway worthy jewels for the likes of Chanel, Ungaro, Dior and Givenchy, and as a result you've probably been seeing their creations traipsing up and down runways for years.

Over the past 25(!) years they have expanded into niches as special as diamond jewelry and chandeliers. What we would give for an Erickson Beamon chandelier... alas, chandelier earrings will just have to do.

Turkish Delight Crescent Earrings (available in gold or silver), $395

(Not So) Mellow Yellow

A bit of bold fun on a rainy Friday (at least in NYC)... Blank's signature short short shorts are going bright for summer! Here we have a wonderfully banana shade of yellow, and stayed tuned for more fun brights in the weeks ahead.

Chiffon Dreaming

'Tis the season for proms, parties and weddings and the number one request in our stores is (you guessed it) for gorgeous dresses. We always count on Robert Rodriguez for feminine frocks, and this dream creation is one of our favorites.

We call it a "flurry of chiffon decadence" with fluttering panels that create peekaboo layers, and the ultimate accessory is built right in... a bouquet of chiffon rosettes.

A Bit of Italian Riviera Chic

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

missonispring.jpg

There's nothing like a dash of Italian Riviera style to get your wardrobe ready for a resort getaway. Or the beach down the road, if you happen to be so lucky.

For a Riviera fix we recommend Missoni -- specifically the trifecta of the Missoni, M Missoni and Missoni Mare collections. They've (literally) got you covered from bikini to caftan to apres swim dinner, with fabulous accessories thrown into the mix (including the collectible signature knit Missoni scarf).

Here's a fun bit of fashion trivia: Tai Missoni presented the first Missoni collection (in partnerwhip with his wife Rosita Jelmini) in 1958. Collaborations and innovations and the creation of their signature knit ensued, making Missoni a coveted label in Italy and the US.

In 1967 they were invited to show at the Pitti Palace in Florence. Before the show, Rosita told the models to remove their bras (supposedly because they were the wrong colour and showed through the thin lamé blouses). The clothing became transparent under the lights and caused a international politcal (and fashion) furor.

The Perfect Party Dress

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

OooLaLa.jpgOur new, exclusive draped dream of a dress is an instant bestseller!

It is the perfect party dress... our customers are buying to wear to everything from proms to chic cocktail parties. As you can see, it's fabulous on its own, but simple enough that the accessories lovers among us can layer them on.

The fabric is a matte side out silk charmeuse jersey, and the faux wrap skirt has a cascade of a ruffle running down the front that highlights the charmeuse in quite a lovely way. Our favorite color is this gorgeous muted teal, but we also of course love it in its other colors -- taupe or a creamy off white.

These tees are available for preorder and are blowing off of our website.

They're styled in burnout jersey, and you have your choice of fantasies -- an Indian queen with golden jewels, or your basic princess with a glittering crystal tiara.

The Collectible Jumpsuit

In a season of jumpsuits, this one has to rank up there with the best.

It is styled in a slinky jersey with a long, lean line. It's our exclusively. And... if you do love it and think it's perfect (as we do) then you can collect it in all six (!) colors: white, off white, pink, grey, blue and red.

We Love Slub

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

tee.jpg
"We Love Slub" is silly, we admit, but it's the little things that get you through the day.

According the dictionary, a slub is " a soft thick nub in yarn that is either an imperfection or purposely set for a desired effect." Ours are purposely set for a desired effect, which is the casual trend of the season (next to ripped up jeans, of course).

This simple little fashion twist elevates your basic boring tee to a fashion piece, and it also means you can have fun collecting more than one (different shapes, different textures, different fabrics, different colors) without overextending your fashion budget.

Check out our slub jersey collection right here -- and we would like to highlight our fantastically comfortable ($150) slubbed jersey jumpsuit right here.

Get Social

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

social.jpg
From the Thread Social website: Beth Blake and Melissa Akey launched Thread Social in 2006, following the success of their fashion-forward bridal line Thread. A tribute to all things nostalgic and flirty, Thread Social is the New York girl's go-to design label for perfect party dresses and quirky separates.

We couldn't agree more. Thread Social can always be counted on for perfectly fliratious ladylike PM dressing. Is it any wonder this lovely one shouldered Grecian inspired number is a bestseller in our stores? It's also available in a long gown version in a delicious turquoisey aqua color.

Ethel Lust

One always lusts for a Chloe handbag for sure, but this Ethel is truly special.

She is styled in a textured leather colored in a totally neutral, wear with everything everwhere forever shade of gunmetal metallic.

The shape is a bit pouchy casual, but structured enough so that it's not like you are carrying a puddle of leather around -- nor are you carrying an update little pocketbook.

And as with all Chloe bags, it is drop dead chic.

This is the handbag that everyone in our office and everyone in our stores wants to own. In other words, it's a Chloe bag to truly lust for.

Style Mix

mix.jpg
Pretty dress (or skirt), add earrings and heels and you're ready to go... right?

Not quite. We love to mix things up to create a personal style statement and add a modern twist to the expected combinations. Here we've played with our favorite Marley ruched sweetheart neck strapless dress and Marley ruched short skirt to create a few fabulous going out looks.

A few of our favorite style additions include the cropped jacket (denim or leather), a waist whittling leather sash, an ultra luxe (preferably oversized) handbag and platform sandals (as an alternative to stilettos).

Fun, flirtatious, modern... view our style mix tips right here.

Introducing rag & bone RTW

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

ragbone.jpg
rag & bone has their roots in denim, and you may have a pair of RB jeans in your very own closet.

The rag & bone RTW collection follows the same philosophy that made their denim line an international success -- a strong British tailoring influence, great fabric and the perfect fashion attitude that mixes their quirky style with a very modern, edgy look.

For example, we do so love their petite fleur printed skinny pants, which have a total London punk feeling going on in a very feminine way. Their runway starring "Blondie" dress is all about the underground glam of Blondie (naturally) and their drop dead chic black leather moto vest is what the word "lust" is all about.

A bit of "earth day" appropriate trivia from the rag & bone website... In Britain, the rag and bone man would travel about searching for scrap metal, wood, old furniture and the like that he could sell to support himself. Children would come running at the shouts of “rag and bone” to collect sweets and candies in exchange for the items they loaded onto his cart.

As an homage to their pioneering ingenuity, conservation and recycling ethic, rag & bone derived their name from this legendary practice.

Introducing Ksubi

Bad boys Dan Single and George Gorrow are surfer/rockers turned fashion designers, and as you might expect their coveted Ksubi denim has a real bad girl edge.

If you're the "I'm with the band" kind of girl, you will love their skin skin skintight jeans, which we bring to you today in the season's must-have washed out grey, surfer chick bleached denim and rocker girl solid black.

How to wear them? Need you ask? They're perfect with your leather moto vest, a bit of attitude and sky high stilettos. Gorgeous rocker not included.

Here we have a wrap star of a different sort... the wrap and wrap and wrap and wrap flat suede sandals from Jeffrey Campbell.

We love them with your 2009 essential beat up, cut off, ripped and torn short denim shorts. We also love them because they give you a lot of style for only $95, which is of course always a good thing!

Metal Winners

We've all heard of "going for the gold" and "settling for the silver" and all those other Olympic references (and btw, what will happen to Michael Phelps' once so promising career?).

In this case we do not feel that you need to settle for silver or for gold. Ideally, one of each is quite nice. We are referring to our fun little metallic short shorts, of course, which are the totally trendiest way to do PM right now (and we do spot them and love them by day as well).

They are styled in a shimmering brocade fabric that is summer-right (not one of those heavy winter time brocades). And with a 3" inseam they are long enough to be legal, but short enough to create ultra long legs for whomever wears them.

Brocade Shorts, Alex Lane, $225

The Question:

"What am I going to wear?"

The Answer:

Our favorite date night picks are hot bright short skirts, flirtatious PM shorts, glam tops to wear with jeans and stilettos, strapless dresses and the ever elegant one-shoulder silhouette.

The Return of the (EJ) Shirt

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

ejshirt.jpg
The ever bestselling shirt returns from Ms. Mary-Kate and Ashley.

This perfect boy meets girl lovely is pure casual school boy from the front and pure sexy flirt from the back, thanks to the tiny little buttons that cinch up the waist like a Victorian corset.

For right now, we're going playtime with two styles -- one in a crisp cotton plaid and the other in pure white cotton gauze.

Do look forward to more styles in the near future, because this is our favorite shirt!

Leather and Lace

VEDA.jpg
In a season of leather jackets, which one to choose? VEDA is always a bestseller for you, and VEDA entered the realm of lustworthy with a mix of leather and lace...

Lace up leather, that is. This gorgeous jacket is fitted, cropped and sexy from the front (of course), but turn around and things get even better. We love the leather whipstitching as style update. Factor in the beautifully neutral nude color, and it all adds up to one perfect spring leather jacket.

Leather Lace Up Back Jacket, VEDA, $638

Scarf Tricks

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

missoni.jpg
Does anything say "spring" more than a pretty new scarf? We love the return of the ladylike fashion essential, especially as celebrated here from our favorite scarf maven Missoni.

We have two directions going on:

1. The Square Scarf: The perky small (19") square is sassy tied around the neck, while the larger (34" square) is big enough to wrap as an abbreviated pareo, a halter top or a dramatic fling around the shoulders.

2. The Knit Scarf: Missoni's signature zigzag knits get updated for Spring 2009 with a mix of zigs and florals and also in open weave knits of stripes or zigs. This is the sophisticated way to carry off the wrap around and around the neck thing that is so essential right now.

Here's a little fashion tip... when we're looking for scarf tying inspiration, we zip right on over to visit "Playtime With Your Scarf" on the Hermes website.

Introducing PRPS Denim

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

prps.jpg
In addition to being insanely trendy right now, PRPS denim is all about "authenticity."

The jeans are made from African cotton, which PRPS has determined is the world's finest (specifically, cotton from Senegal, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Benin). Each fluff of cotton is personally inspected by cotton farmers, whose lives are enriched by the business that PRPS brings to their farms.

This exquisite cotton is then zipped on over to Japan and woven into denim on vintage Levi's looms. The construction of the jeans follows the guidelines of traditional Japanese craftsman, who (after many tea ceremonies) agreed to apply their expertise and finesse to the PRPS line.

Their jeans are designed to reflect their working roots -- military uniforms, work wear and hunting apparel. For example, PRPS paint-splattered jeans are literally splattered according to the guidelines developed after photographing many many pairs of authentically paint-splattered jeans.

PRPS calls their jeans "perfect," and who can argue with that?

You can check out our PRPS silver paint-splattered jeans and cut-off shorts right here.

Introducing Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

soleil.jpg
There's a lot to be said for going your own way, the rest of the world be damned. That's always been the attitude of Jean Paul Gaultier, which has made him a fashion darling for oh so many years.

Learn from this: Monsieur Gaultier never studied design. He instead sent sketches to famous designers, and as a result he was hired by Pierre Cardin. That attitude worked in 1970, and it still works today. That is your bit of self-help therapy for the day. :)

Moving right along, we are beyond in love with our new Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil, which, cleverly enough, is his beach collection. One half of the collection focuses on outrageous Mayan prints, and the other half is slinky rayon style in an ethnic-inspired oversized leaf print.

Even if you don't plan on spending $325 on a pair of jersey shorts (although if you can we do encourage you do so -- they are fantastic), we hope you will take a look at his fabulous style right here.
