But if we must put it into words, it is a mash-up of the geological and the cosmical as seen through a kaleidoscope. Before the sunshine lets up and the flip-flopping rainy forecast resumes, I’m breaking out these pleated linen Chloé shorts. These may seem a bit plain Jane but it’s all in the details. The slouchy shorts have a trouser finish with the addition of pleats and a detachable slim leather belt. Plus how many shorts have you seen with leather trim? The muted grey trim sits along the top of its waist band and along the opening of its “pockets” (more like pocket singular since the two faux front ones are just for looks).

Not your average tribal look, jewelry designer Claudine Drescher (cousin to Fran) adds some megawatt sparkle to her best selling wooden bracelet with pave crystal embellished balls. A plethora of dark wood beads make up the wide stretchy bracelet while the crystal balls dots the surface to add some pop to the otherwise all wood piece. For a little bit less contrast with the same amount of sparkle, opt for the ivory version made of painted wooden beads.

Don’t think we’ve gone overboard with the bevy of maritime ensembles, it’s just that the nautical look is making large waves this season. Now hear us out. Before you become aghast at the possibility of clunky wooden shoes making their fashion resurgence, take a look at these clog-inspired Elizabeth and James heels. There’s just enough chunky wood that the word “clog” comes to mind at first sight but it still remains chic enough to be considered nighttime appropriate.

L.A. accessories label Melamed goes army green with this leather camouflage belt. Helmed by sisters Kathy and Michelle Melamed, the line is a favorite amongst A-listers the likes of Selena Gomez, Stacy Keibler, Megan Fox, and errr, Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas (talk about a wide reaching fan base!). Pair these with cargo pieces to channel this season’s return to military-inspired wares.

Fave jacket line Smythe keeps its sculpted silhouette while adding a bit of sport to its usual collection of feminine cuts. Taking a page from the runways, the Canadian label makes a foray into utilitarian wares with this army green cargo jacket. It has a bevy of patch pockets, epaulettes, a drawstring hemline, and some shiny gold-tone buttons to lessen the rugged look.

With a spring relaunch, former shirt label Equipment revisits its classic boyfriend shirt that made all the rage in the ‘80s. Founded in 1976 by Christian Restoin (hubby of editrix Carine Roitfeld), the line was shuttered in 1998 when Restoin decided to step aside to support Roitfeld in her new role as fashion arbiter of French Vogue. Now thanks to pal Serge Azria (brother of Max and creative director of Current/Elliott and Joie), Equipment is bringing back its signature silk menswear shirts with two patch pockets and with Restoin as a creative consultant naturally.

Fun factoid: Restoin met the French Voguette when she called in some Equipment shirts for a fashion shoot she was styling.

J Brand takes a break from skinnies with these dressed up (when compared to its denim counterpart anyways) Inez trousers that still read casual cool.
