Cruelty-free designer Stella McCartney does fabulous fall accessories fit for those with a vegetarian palate. Here we have the over the knee trend done sportif... the boots rise just a bit past the knee where a tab along the side snaps closed for a snug fit. They have convenient flat gum soles -- just what you need when you find yourself trekking around town during a snow emergency.

Sky High

Though it may look (and possibly feel) like a neck brace for your lower half this banded number from Pleasure Doing Business has the magical ability to pinch and tuck every imperfection for a sculpted look. The little black skirt ($115) sits a bit high on the waist so don’t let its 17” length fool you as it is quite mini. No need to suck in. The six bands of extra duty elasticized rubber do that for you.

Torn To Shreds

hero.jpg
Having launched their debut collection just this summer, the L.A.-based duo of Josh and He Yang are quickly dressing Hollywood PYTs in their cobwebbed creations. But what really sets the pair apart is their tongue-in-cheek backstory to the name Hero Crane. Have you seen their swan-like logo that looks part-man and part-bird? Well the fictional tale goes that the young Hero Crane was separated from his family and took refuge in a giant Oak tree. High in the sky, he had a Tarzan-esque upbringing thanks to a flock of birds who took him under their wings by teaching him how to survive and weave nests. Though a bit unusual as far as backstories go, the head-scratching factoid sheds some light on why the go-to shredded label looks completely cobwebbed… a nest-inspired look perhaps? But whatever the idea, their look is definitely a heavy hitter as their signature Shredded Net Scoop Neck Tee ($145) from their freshman collection returns in new navy and brown charcoal hues. The tees are finely shredded at the sides to created cobwebbed panels that reveal a modest (or as modest as sheer sides can be) amount of skin.

Vested Interest

fur.jpg
New York-based label Sherry Cassin dots her light weight vests with tiny fur tufts that almost look like a heavy coat of plumage. The fur puffs resemble individual fuzzy feathers – especially the silver fox version which has poofs that gradate from silver to charcoal brown to white at the tips. Bred from Finish foxes, the fur dots the entirely of the Cheryl vest from its fluffed collar downward though it remains surprisingly light despite its thick coverage. Choose from jet black
($745), silver ($1195), or snow white ($875).

SHORT AND SWEET

Ho-hum winter weather need not mean that your minis have to relocate to the back of your closet. L.A.-based freshman line Pleasure Doing Business goes to show that the sculpted mini can still work even when the forecast turns frigid. Helmed by designers Simone Gonzalez and Aaron Beaulieu, the fresh faced line has created a buzz amongst downtown PYTs for its coquettish appeal. A collection focused around the banded mini skirt doesn’t usually read Audrey Hepburn classic but the duo manages to pare down its flirty feel with a sleek silhouette that keeps it classy. Here PDB does a high waisted skirt ($140) in a pinstripe print that really cinches things in place thanks to its extra elastic bands. Just pare with some tights (even we’re not prepared to go bare-legged right now in the name of fashion!) and you’re ready for the cold front.

BOOT UP

mukluks.JPG
One part snow boot and two parts moccasin make for these Eskimo-appropriate mukluk boots. Canadian-based Manitobah is the shoe label behind these authentic recreations of aboriginal footwear given an urban renewal thanks to intricate beading and luxe fur trim. Originally meant for Artic aboriginals, the boots look like a close cousin of the Uggs except much fluffier and furrier. The mukluks are extra warm while being fairly light thanks to its soft rubber soles and its shearling sheepskin exterior. Here they do a shorter wrapped version ($298, in grey or black) that is slit at the sides but wrapped over and over again for a snug fit.

Huff and Puff

add%20puffer.JPG
Having said that we don’t like puffers that make us look like snowmen, it has to be said that they do come in handy especially on a frigid day like this. So the question becomes cropped and frosty or snug and overstuffed? Luckily for us, Italian outerwear label Add solves this fashion conundrum by making a knee length puffer coat ($390) feel warm while reading trim. It’s the latest office hit thanks to its belted waist and diagonal seams which make for a slimming silhouette. The goose down coat even has a puffed quilted hood to round out the poofy look. Perfect to fend off the upcoming cold front!

A Little Puff Magic

moncler.jpg

Ready to dust off your old winter weather gear? You know, those things you wear to keep you warm but you hope you don't run into anyone you know because you look like an oversized snowman? Wait just one minute. We do encourage you to explore for French-born outerwear label Moncler .

Moncler is all about uber warmth whilst still retaining the sleekness and chic a snow bunny might need during a city jaunt. The company has a storied history of outfitting the likes of Olympic skiers and alpine expedition teams, but they've also extended that expertise into the world of haute couture. In their latest collection, designer Giambattista Valli turned the classic down jacket inside out with a toile blouse fluffed up with feather appliqués on the outside.

But back to reality. In preparation for the upcoming cold front, we've selected ultra warm puffers with a feminine twist. You'll find a swingy A line jacket, slim belted waists and face-framing fur --all designed to create the perfect curvaceous silhouette that works both on the slopes or après-ski. Twisted Sisters

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

It is a universal truth that the best thing about having a sister is free range over a second wardrobe. Here at Intermix we work with our fair share of sister acts, from the likes of Elizabeth and James, Twenty8Twelve, Dannijo, Angel Jackson and Tuleste.

Another addition to that growing list is the Minnesota-bred duo of Kim and Linda Renk, who happen to share the bonds of sisterhood along with their playful costume jewelry line Sequin. Having cut their teeth in the fashion industry for the past decade (Kim in product design for jewelry line Swank and Linda as a buyer for Target), they launched Sequin -- a haven for those who dream of collecting vintage Miriam Haskell-like gems on a budget.

Their current collection features fringed out metals and beribboned twists. Their pieces are a perfect example of one of our favorite emerging trends -- the eclectic necklace. View the collection here.

Sparkle Girl

leeangel.jpg
We love Lee Angel jewels because their designer Roxanne Assoulin is the queen of sparkle. As a matter of fact, the sparkle in her newest collection is quite out of control, which is just what the party girl needs to be the center of attention (and who doesn't want to be the center of attention?).

For instance, we swear she is channeling the New Year's Eve Times Square ball with her fireball ring, which is a huge dome of grey crystals -- and the grey color is particularly nice, because it adds a bit of chic. Or feast your eyes on oversized vintage-inspired crystal earrings, which are almost but not quite a chandelier style.

Our favorite piece is the crystal cluster cuff strung with dangling crystals. It jingles with every move you make, creating quite a cheerful castanet-esque clatter. Not for the faint of heart.

Green With Envy

A bit of pure lust for a Friday afternoon... this absolutely gorgeous Chloe duffel has caught the eye of everyone in our office, and our eyes have gone green with envy thinking about the fashion goddess who will walk out of our store (or website) with this handbag.

It's for the girl who needs everything, and needs to carry it all around with her all the time. Or it could be a to die for weekend duffel... just what you need when an impromptu weekend escape comes your way.

The Trend: Vintage Lace

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

uneedthislace.gif
There's pretty girl lace, and there's provocative lace. We're all about lace that's meant to bare more than a little... a splice of lace running from waist to hem on a Stella skirt or a long lean length of sheer knit lace as your new LBD.

What we're loving about lace right now is that designers are turning to vintage pieces to create their seductive pieces. For example, Yael Aflalo and her former designer Chi Bui have found a new fashion perspective with their new vintage-inspired collection named The Reformation which -- you guessed it -- is inspired by styles and uses fabrics from our fashion past (more on that later).

All About Adrienne

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

AdrienneLandau.jpg
Long story short -- after bartering some art pieces for fur scraps to revamp an antique fur find, artist Adrienne Landau ended up with a clever vintage coat as well as a namesake fashion label.

But Landau isn't your uptown fur designer outfitting the ladies who lunch crowd, oh no. She has a penchant for fluffy raccoon spiced with neon dyes and sleek rabbit glammed up with a leopard print job.

For a jolt of color, try a raccoon muffler in cobalt blue... Daring PYTs can channel ‘60s fashion maven Edie Sedgwick with a leopard print faux mink jacket... Glamour girls with a twist (or twisted glamour girls, if you will) can call summon forth their inner fashion diva with a dramatic mix of rabbit fur and raccoon.

Fringe Benefits

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

gryphonfringe.jpg
We love fringe. It's playful yet somehow sophisticated, provocative, chic. The beauty of fringe is that in most cases it can be worn both day and night, since many of the key trends right now are all about ultra glam (especially as we head into holiday).

We do warn you -- there is nothing worse than tacky fringe. So we do encourage you to take a look at fringe as created by Gryphon, a company that's renowned not only for styling but also for impeccable construction. This jacket is a whirlwind of fringe from top to bottom, and as you'd expect from such a high quality piece, it's very very very heavy. And fantastic on. So go ahead, have a bit of fun.

Fringed Silk Jacket, Gryphon, $575

Birds of a Feather

jacksonbag.jpg
Brit punk meets Parisian chic as the sibling duo behind accessories label Angel Jackson crosses the pond with their frock ‘n roll handbags in tow. Sisters and besties Katie and Millie Smith have been designing their ethical minded handbags for the past four years to much acclaim from a Brit fan base that includes the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alex Chung.

What sets the sisters apart is their ethical design sensibility that ensures that materials are humanely sourced (i.e. the snakeskin they use is a bi-product of the food industry) and that craftspeople are treated well (i.e. free healthcare and English lessons for workers). Last month, the two finally made the jump stateside by debuting their newest collection during New York Fashion Week.

Seeming like a tagline for a Gossip Girl episode, their fall unveil is dubbed “The damned and the dangerously beautiful” and is peppered with snakeskin, mixed metals, studs and feathers. Looking very much like an UWS-appropriate handbag after a go through the Bedazzler, their Studded Sequin Handbag ($465) is completely swathed in metallic sequins, silver studs and jet black snakeskin to complete the downtown socialite look.

Though if you’re sequin-averse, there is always the Chandra Feather Handbag ($495), which takes more than a bit of inspiration from our feathered friends. It has such a drama of heavy dark green plumage you may be surprised to note that there’s actually a bag hidden somewhere underneath.

Access Hollywood

hollywoodbelt.jpg

Known for their Wild West aesthetics, belt label Hollywood Trading Company trades yesteryear's horse-galloping cowboys for Harley-riding bikers with their latest rocker-inspired belts.

Designer Zip Stevenson, the man behind the vintage-esque belts, is affixing studs to his once strictly Americana pieces. They don't really look like gear befitting a lasso and chaps... the new creations include a belt made completely of chunky chain links (Electric Multi Chain Belt, $275). We’re sure Calamity Jane would approve.
