Chiffon Dreaming

'Tis the season for proms, parties and weddings and the number one request in our stores is (you guessed it) for gorgeous dresses. We always count on Robert Rodriguez for feminine frocks, and this dream creation is one of our favorites.

We call it a "flurry of chiffon decadence" with fluttering panels that create peekaboo layers, and the ultimate accessory is built right in... a bouquet of chiffon rosettes.

A Bit of Italian Riviera Chic

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

missonispring.jpg

There's nothing like a dash of Italian Riviera style to get your wardrobe ready for a resort getaway. Or the beach down the road, if you happen to be so lucky.

For a Riviera fix we recommend Missoni -- specifically the trifecta of the Missoni, M Missoni and Missoni Mare collections. They've (literally) got you covered from bikini to caftan to apres swim dinner, with fabulous accessories thrown into the mix (including the collectible signature knit Missoni scarf).

Here's a fun bit of fashion trivia: Tai Missoni presented the first Missoni collection (in partnerwhip with his wife Rosita Jelmini) in 1958. Collaborations and innovations and the creation of their signature knit ensued, making Missoni a coveted label in Italy and the US.

In 1967 they were invited to show at the Pitti Palace in Florence. Before the show, Rosita told the models to remove their bras (supposedly because they were the wrong colour and showed through the thin lamé blouses). The clothing became transparent under the lights and caused a international politcal (and fashion) furor.

The Perfect Party Dress

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

OooLaLa.jpgOur new, exclusive draped dream of a dress is an instant bestseller!

It is the perfect party dress... our customers are buying to wear to everything from proms to chic cocktail parties. As you can see, it's fabulous on its own, but simple enough that the accessories lovers among us can layer them on.

The fabric is a matte side out silk charmeuse jersey, and the faux wrap skirt has a cascade of a ruffle running down the front that highlights the charmeuse in quite a lovely way. Our favorite color is this gorgeous muted teal, but we also of course love it in its other colors -- taupe or a creamy off white.

What's not to love about fancy jewels? TORN's Ronny Kobo gets it, which is why she brings to us two fabulously over the top tops.

These tees are available for preorder and are blowing off of our website.

They're styled in burnout jersey, and you have your choice of fantasies -- an Indian queen with golden jewels, or your basic princess with a glittering crystal tiara.

The Collectible Jumpsuit

In a season of jumpsuits, this one has to rank up there with the best.

It is styled in a slinky jersey with a long, lean line. It's our exclusively. And... if you do love it and think it's perfect (as we do) then you can collect it in all six (!) colors: white, off white, pink, grey, blue and red.

We Love Slub

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

tee.jpg
"We Love Slub" is silly, we admit, but it's the little things that get you through the day.

According the dictionary, a slub is " a soft thick nub in yarn that is either an imperfection or purposely set for a desired effect." Ours are purposely set for a desired effect, which is the casual trend of the season (next to ripped up jeans, of course).

This simple little fashion twist elevates your basic boring tee to a fashion piece, and it also means you can have fun collecting more than one (different shapes, different textures, different fabrics, different colors) without overextending your fashion budget.

Check out our slub jersey collection right here -- and we would like to highlight our fantastically comfortable ($150) slubbed jersey jumpsuit right here.

Get Social

social.jpg
From the Thread Social website: Beth Blake and Melissa Akey launched Thread Social in 2006, following the success of their fashion-forward bridal line Thread. A tribute to all things nostalgic and flirty, Thread Social is the New York girl's go-to design label for perfect party dresses and quirky separates.

We couldn't agree more. Thread Social can always be counted on for perfectly fliratious ladylike PM dressing. Is it any wonder this lovely one shouldered Grecian inspired number is a bestseller in our stores? It's also available in a long gown version in a delicious turquoisey aqua color.

One always lusts for a Chloe handbag for sure, but this Ethel is truly special.

She is styled in a textured leather colored in a totally neutral, wear with everything everwhere forever shade of gunmetal metallic.

The shape is a bit pouchy casual, but structured enough so that it's not like you are carrying a puddle of leather around -- nor are you carrying an update little pocketbook.

And as with all Chloe bags, it is drop dead chic.

This is the handbag that everyone in our office and everyone in our stores wants to own. In other words, it's a Chloe bag to truly lust for.

Style Mix

Pretty dress (or skirt), add earrings and heels and you're ready to go... right?

Not quite. We love to mix things up to create a personal style statement and add a modern twist to the expected combinations. Here we've played with our favorite Marley ruched sweetheart neck strapless dress and Marley ruched short skirt to create a few fabulous going out looks.

A few of our favorite style additions include the cropped jacket (denim or leather), a waist whittling leather sash, an ultra luxe (preferably oversized) handbag and platform sandals (as an alternative to stilettos).

Fun, flirtatious, modern... view our style mix tips right here.

Introducing rag & bone RTW

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

ragbone.jpg
rag & bone has their roots in denim, and you may have a pair of RB jeans in your very own closet.

The rag & bone RTW collection follows the same philosophy that made their denim line an international success -- a strong British tailoring influence, great fabric and the perfect fashion attitude that mixes their quirky style with a very modern, edgy look.

For example, we do so love their petite fleur printed skinny pants, which have a total London punk feeling going on in a very feminine way. Their runway starring "Blondie" dress is all about the underground glam of Blondie (naturally) and their drop dead chic black leather moto vest is what the word "lust" is all about.

A bit of "earth day" appropriate trivia from the rag & bone website... In Britain, the rag and bone man would travel about searching for scrap metal, wood, old furniture and the like that he could sell to support himself. Children would come running at the shouts of “rag and bone” to collect sweets and candies in exchange for the items they loaded onto his cart.

As an homage to their pioneering ingenuity, conservation and recycling ethic, rag & bone derived their name from this legendary practice.

Bad boys Dan Single and George Gorrow are surfer/rockers turned fashion designers, and as you might expect their coveted Ksubi denim has a real bad girl edge.

If you're the "I'm with the band" kind of girl, you will love their skin skin skintight jeans, which we bring to you today in the season's must-have washed out grey, surfer chick bleached denim and rocker girl solid black.

How to wear them? Need you ask? They're perfect with your leather moto vest, a bit of attitude and sky high stilettos. Gorgeous rocker not included.

Here we have a wrap star of a different sort... the wrap and wrap and wrap and wrap flat suede sandals from Jeffrey Campbell.

We love them with your 2009 essential beat up, cut off, ripped and torn short denim shorts. We also love them because they give you a lot of style for only $95, which is of course always a good thing!

We've all heard of "going for the gold" and "settling for the silver" and all those other Olympic references (and btw, what will happen to Michael Phelps' once so promising career?).

In this case we do not feel that you need to settle for silver or for gold. Ideally, one of each is quite nice. We are referring to our fun little metallic short shorts, of course, which are the totally trendiest way to do PM right now (and we do spot them and love them by day as well).

They are styled in a shimmering brocade fabric that is summer-right (not one of those heavy winter time brocades). And with a 3" inseam they are long enough to be legal, but short enough to create ultra long legs for whomever wears them.

Brocade Shorts, Alex Lane, $225

"What am I going to wear?"

The Answer:

Our favorite date night picks are hot bright short skirts, flirtatious PM shorts, glam tops to wear with jeans and stilettos, strapless dresses and the ever elegant one-shoulder silhouette.

The Return of the (EJ) Shirt

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

ejshirt.jpg
The ever bestselling shirt returns from Ms. Mary-Kate and Ashley.

This perfect boy meets girl lovely is pure casual school boy from the front and pure sexy flirt from the back, thanks to the tiny little buttons that cinch up the waist like a Victorian corset.

For right now, we're going playtime with two styles -- one in a crisp cotton plaid and the other in pure white cotton gauze.

Do look forward to more styles in the near future, because this is our favorite shirt!

Leather and Lace

VEDA.jpg
In a season of leather jackets, which one to choose? VEDA is always a bestseller for you, and VEDA entered the realm of lustworthy with a mix of leather and lace...

Lace up leather, that is. This gorgeous jacket is fitted, cropped and sexy from the front (of course), but turn around and things get even better. We love the leather whipstitching as style update. Factor in the beautifully neutral nude color, and it all adds up to one perfect spring leather jacket.

Leather Lace Up Back Jacket, VEDA, $638

Scarf Tricks

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

missoni.jpg
Does anything say "spring" more than a pretty new scarf? We love the return of the ladylike fashion essential, especially as celebrated here from our favorite scarf maven Missoni.

We have two directions going on:

1. The Square Scarf: The perky small (19") square is sassy tied around the neck, while the larger (34" square) is big enough to wrap as an abbreviated pareo, a halter top or a dramatic fling around the shoulders.

2. The Knit Scarf: Missoni's signature zigzag knits get updated for Spring 2009 with a mix of zigs and florals and also in open weave knits of stripes or zigs. This is the sophisticated way to carry off the wrap around and around the neck thing that is so essential right now.

Here's a little fashion tip... when we're looking for scarf tying inspiration, we zip right on over to visit "Playtime With Your Scarf" on the Hermes website.

Introducing PRPS Denim

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

prps.jpg
In addition to being insanely trendy right now, PRPS denim is all about "authenticity."

The jeans are made from African cotton, which PRPS has determined is the world's finest (specifically, cotton from Senegal, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Benin). Each fluff of cotton is personally inspected by cotton farmers, whose lives are enriched by the business that PRPS brings to their farms.

This exquisite cotton is then zipped on over to Japan and woven into denim on vintage Levi's looms. The construction of the jeans follows the guidelines of traditional Japanese craftsman, who (after many tea ceremonies) agreed to apply their expertise and finesse to the PRPS line.

Their jeans are designed to reflect their working roots -- military uniforms, work wear and hunting apparel. For example, PRPS paint-splattered jeans are literally splattered according to the guidelines developed after photographing many many pairs of authentically paint-splattered jeans.

PRPS calls their jeans "perfect," and who can argue with that?

You can check out our PRPS silver paint-splattered jeans and cut-off shorts right here.

Introducing Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil

Filed under Lust Of The Day.

soleil.jpg
There's a lot to be said for going your own way, the rest of the world be damned. That's always been the attitude of Jean Paul Gaultier, which has made him a fashion darling for oh so many years.

Learn from this: Monsieur Gaultier never studied design. He instead sent sketches to famous designers, and as a result he was hired by Pierre Cardin. That attitude worked in 1970, and it still works today. That is your bit of self-help therapy for the day. :)

Moving right along, we are beyond in love with our new Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil, which, cleverly enough, is his beach collection. One half of the collection focuses on outrageous Mayan prints, and the other half is slinky rayon style in an ethnic-inspired oversized leaf print.

Even if you don't plan on spending $325 on a pair of jersey shorts (although if you can we do encourage you do so -- they are fantastic), we hope you will take a look at his fabulous style right here.

You Need This: The Cami

Introducing Christian Siriano

Christian Siriano: You fell in love with him (or not) on Project Runway. You've seen his clothes on Heidi Klum, Victoria Beckham and Anne Hathaway. You've heard him admire the style of Mary-Kate Olsen, Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet. You've heard him say not so nice things about Mariah Carey. He's designing the costumes for "Eloise in Paris" starring Uma Thurman. He's everywhere you turn... and he's available at INTERMIX.

Do take a look at our selections from Christian Siriano and see what the buzz is all about. Sophisticated, ladylike, beautifully tailored, what's not to love?
